I once invited my best client and wife around for dinner with the plan of impressing them with my cooking skills. The plan was to serve a lavish baked duck dinner with all the trimmings. I followed an old technique my mother gave me years before and ended up with a duck so tough it was more like a bowling ball. After a few polite attempts by my guests to chip a piece off the offending bird they finally pointed out that it was inedible. The night at the most expensive restaurant in town that ensued was most enjoyable although a bit more expensive than I had in mind. I learned a number of valuable lessons that night.
