Thank you to the 'Oakworth Village Society' for posting information about the building known as 'The Hollies' within the article, "A local Walk around Oakworth". It was stated that "This was the first doctor's surgery to be set up in Oakworth. The practice was established by Dr Thompson in 1897."

This was particularly interesting to me because I am currently researching a 'family history' and Dr Thompson is a relative of the subject. His full name was Isaac Thompson and he was born in Kirkby Stephen, Westmoreland, c.1866. Isaac, a "Surgeon", married Hannah Elizabeth Mary Elsie Wright of Oldfield on 8th September, 1897. This year coincides with that in which the surgery was set up in Oakworth. It could be imagined that, in the tradition of the time, when Isaac established his business he was able to marry and offer his wife a home.

Hannah, born c.1870, was popularly known as 'Elsie'. She and Isaac had at least three children; Hetty (named after Elsie's mother), Marjorie Irene and Joseph Sugden (whose second given name was also the second given name of Elsie's father). The Thompson's continued to be resident at 'The Hollies' in 1911. However, the 1901 census gave their address as 'Holly House' in Oakworth but the 1911 census noted their home as 'The Hollies'. The note within the article posted by the Oakworth Village Society strengthens the view that this was the same dwelling that Isaac and Elsie moved into when they married in 1897. It would seem that the name of this building evolved. This was possibly due to 'common usage'.

I do not know, but would very much like to learn, what became of the members of this branch of the Thompson family. Do any members of the Oakworth Village Forum have information about, or an association with, any of these Thompsons? The youngest of their noted children, Joseph Sugden Thompson, was born in the third quarter of 1907. I would love to hear from anyone who is interested in these Thompsons, 'The Hollies' or Hannah E M Elsie Wright. Thank you.
