I do and have done since I was in short trousers.
So satisfying to catch a fish on one you have tied.
Any really good patterns out there?
Lets hear about them then guys.

Yes,and yes it is very satisfying,i find loading my own rifle ammo much the same.Because of my job I tie quite a lot, mostly salmon patterns. The cascade is one of my favourite popular flies but i do also have a couple of 'secret recipes' which work well but only get given to the chosen few!!Its quite a handy line of work to be in with regards to getting plenty of free materials too-stoats tails, squirrel tails, jay wings,etc-the ultimate in recycling!.I remember when I was on the YTS getting a little extra from selling squirrel tails to veniards,25p per tail can seem quite attractive when you're working for less than £30 per week!

Are Veniards still going? I bought m first vice from then - still have it soewhere. I suppose that there is so much stuff from India comng in now and so many cheaper suppliers they may have shut.

Yes,they're still going(at least they were when I bought some of their stuff a while ago) and I find that their stuff is much better quality than a lot of the imported materials.Flies, too are getting tied all over the world now for the british market,i dont think that you can beat a fly tied by someone with an intimate knowledge of where it is going to be used, though.

Yes I tie my own trout flies. One of the best trout I ever caught was on a buzzer i tied which everyone else laughed at. But they did not laugh when I caught a 14lb trout.

Like to experiment and try out my own designs and then see if they catch anything, something follow traditonal pattern from my books.

Love making cds and anything with hackles on.

Tend to tie more flies in the winter months as something to do on the dark long nights. Any spare feathers are allways welcome.
