The DCS (Deer Commission for Scotland) is running a course at Blair Atholl details below. I am attendin the Wed. session.and will report back. Anyone else going I will see you there,

For those north of the border there is a free course from the DCS at Blair Atholl next Wed or THu. if anyone is interested,

Best Practice Guidance on the Management of Wild Deer in Scotland, Demonstration Event.

Atholl Estates, Perthshire on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th October 2008.

These events have been developed to encourage all those who manage deer, regardless of
experience and ability level, to see at ?rst-hand Best Practice Guidance demonstrated in a
practical setting.

On each day the following sessions will be
demonstrated:

Firearms
Aimed at developing sound
practical shooting techniques at the level and
capability of the individual.

Culling
Will include shot placement,
reaction to shot and follow-up and the use of
dogs in deer management.

Deer Health & Welfare
Aimed at encouraging discussion, this session
will focus on a range of topics relating to deer
welfare.

Habitat Assessment
Covering the principles of Habitat Assessment.

Carcass Preparation
Will include practical preparation of carcasses, Food
Hygiene legislation, larder hygiene standards
and design.

Adding Value to the Asset
Will look at how the deer resource
can generate income streams beyond that of
traditional sporting uses.


Attendance is free but places on these events is limited and participants
are asked to register in advance for a place.

I got my first 4 selections on the Wednesday meet, My mother is still in Blair Atholl so accomodation sorted, Jim
